Over the weekend, 34 drivers competed in the Kaliro Sugar rally in the districts of Iganga and Jinja in eastern Uganda.
The event, which was well-organized and well-attended, attracted over 34 drivers racing over five sections totalling 303 kilometres throughout the two-day event.
The surprising entrance of rally ace driver Rajiv Ruparelia, chairman of the board of trustees of Central Motor Club (CMC) and managing director of the Speke Group, CMC's primary sponsor, was the rally's greatest event on day one.
Rajiv's attendance at various stages of the rally piqued the interest of many spectators, who were perplexed as to why he was a spectator rather than a driver.
Day one ended with Duncan Mubiru, driving a Ford Fiesta Proto, leading the way ahead of day two, which begins today.
The top rankings from the first day of racing at the Kaliro Sugar Rally are shown below.
The CMC rally was originally intended to take place in Mubende and Kasanda, but the promoters changed it to the eastern areas to provide rally enthusiasts an exciting experience of the racing activities.
