Prelate Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala is 96 years old and still going strong. Sudhir Ruparelia and friends organised him a surprise party to commemorate the milestone as well as his 65th priesthood anniversary.
Wamala hasn't made many public appearances owing to his senior age, and Sudhir visited him at his home in Nsambya. It was a nice gesture by the billionaire and the group of around 60 people who came to check on Wamala. Many prominent individuals fade into obscurity as they age.
Wamala was not present during the installation of the new Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, in January of this year, and the congregation was told that he was too frail to physically attend the event.
Wamala's final public appearance was on November 21, 2021, at the Kiyinda-Mityana diocese's St. Noa Mawaggali Cathedral, when he celebrated his 40th episcopal anniversary.
Sudhir said that the elderly guy accomplished many good works for the nation and that the birthday celebration was held to honour his numerous achievements to the country.
Wamala was born on December 15, 1926. He is the only Cardinal in the Roman Catholic Church and served as Archbishop of Kampala from 1990 to 2006.
He is presently the Cardinal-Priest of Sant'Ugo, a position he was assigned to in 1994.
He was one of the cardinal electors who took part in the 2005 papal conclave that elected Pope Benedict XVI, but he no longer has the ability to vote in future conclaves since he has reached the age of eighty. In Kampala, he was replaced by Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, who died in April 2021.
